The funnel cakes, ferris wheel, cattle shows and truck and tractor pull all return this week for the 54th Barren County Fair.
Events get under way on Tuesday and run through Saturday. As in years past, a variety of activities will be available, including gospel and bluegrass music, a baby show, beauty pageant and the popular truck and tractor pull on Saturday night.
“I guess that will get more people out than anything,” said James Bailey, publicity chairman for the fair.
Kicking off the fair on Tuesday at 7 p.m. will be a gospel and bluegrass concert, 4-H and FFA events, a beef cattle show and open beef show.
The carnival will open at 6 p.m. Wristbands will be available from 6 to 10 p.m.
On Wednesday night, starting at 6, there will be the 4-H and FFA Dairy Cattle Show, the open dairy show, baby show, Tiny Mr. and Miss Barren County Fair and Little Mr. and Miss Barren County Fair.
The Miss Preteen Barren County Fair show gets under way at 6 p.m. Thursday, along with the Miss Teen Barren County, Miss Barren County and Miss Barren County Fair pageants.
On Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon, floral hall exhibits will be available for viewing. Judging of floral hall entries will take place at 12:30 p.m. The annual horse show is set to start at 7 p.m.
The open and youth poultry show will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by the horseshoe pitching tournament at 9:30 a.m.
There will be a pet show at 11 a.m. and at noon the athletic events for children will begin.
The Tennessee Square Marble Tournament will start at 4 p.m., followed by the pedal pull at 6:30 p.m. and the truck and tractor pull at 7:30.
“It’s pretty close to what we normally do,” Bailey said about the scheduled events.
As a member of the Temple Hill Lions Club, which sponsors the fair every year, Bailey looks forward to the crowds.
“I kindly enjoy the public relations part of it,” he said. “(I) get to meet a lot of people.”
