Gospel on the go in Glasgow
Speed-preaching event Thursday and Friday

GLASGOW

Church will be on Thursday and Friday this week at the Plaza Theatre.

“One Community Under God,” an event sponsored by the Glasgow Area Ministerial Association, will start at 5:55 p.m. each day.

“It’s basically to worship and give thanks to God for our freedoms and our privileges we have in this country and just to have a time of fellowship together,” said Neil Jeffries, pastor of Bethel United Methodist Church.

The event will feature speed preaching, a technique that was first used in the area during a revival at Caveland Baptist Church in Cave City.

Five preachers will be given seven minutes each night in which to preach on a different scripture.

“They get seven minutes to share what the Lord has put on their heart,” Jeffries said. “There’s no break. It’s just boom, boom, boom. It’s a pretty awesome experience.”

The event will also feature singing from the Caveland Baptist Choir on Thursday night and the choir of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church on Friday night.

“We’re having some great choirs and we’re having some of our public officeholders (to speak and pray),” Jeffries said.

Some of the local dignitaries scheduled to speak are: Glasgow Mayor Darrell Pickett, Cave City Mayor Bob Hunt, Barren County Circuit Court Judge Phil Patton, Barren County Attorney Jeff Sharp and Barren County Judge-Executive Davie Greer.

“It’s truly a community event with not only the church involved, but also the secular community,” Jeffries said. “We’re hoping with this effort we can bring the community closer together.”

The event is free to the public, however, an offering will be taken both nights.

“The offering will, of course, be used to pay for the event and the proceeds left over will go to our Youth RYOT, which will take place in August,” Jeffries said.

Hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks will be sold for a $1 each Friday night. Proceeds from the concession sales will go to the Boys and Girls Club of America.

This is the first event of its kind in Glasgow, but Jeffries said he hopes it will become an annual event.

“It’s our prayerful hope that it will grow each year,” he said.
