An Austin Tracy volunteer firefighter died on Monday, more than a week after being the victim of a hit-and-run accident.
Lloyd Mabry, 31, a 13-year veteran of the fire department, was operating a Yamaha motorcycle when he was struck by a motor vehicle on Peters Creek Road on June 22. The car fled the scene.
Mabry was under care at Vanderbilt Hospital.
Austin Tracy Chief Larry Bragg said he and the rest of the department were getting together Monday evening to plan a strategy around “not having him (Mabry).”
“He was one of the most likable people that you’d want to be around,” an emotional Bragg said. “He’d give the shirt off his back to you if you needed it.”
Members of the Barren County Sheriff’s Department have been trying to locate persons of interest for questioning in the accident.
Modesto and Norboerto Figueroa, two Hispanic males who were working as tenant farmers for a family in Monroe County, are being sought. Their last known place of residence was off the Jeff Hicks Road in the Austin community.
A $3,500 reward is being offered in the case. Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office at (270) 651-2771 or the hot line at (270) 646-8771.
