Glasgow Independent School District’s facility plan has been approved by the Kentucky Depart-ment of Education.
Listed as top priority for Glasgow during the 2006-08 biennium is the replacement of Glasgow High School’s education building, plus the renovation of the school’s gym, band and technical education buildings.
“Depending on funds, this will be done either at one time or in two phases,” said Bill Ritter, who oversaw the development of the district’s new school facilities plan. “We do not presently have the funds to begin this work, but hopefully we will receive funding from Frankfort in the near future.”
He added he was not sure how soon funding might come through for the project.
The school district will need approximately $13 million to begin the replacement of the high school educational building and around $3 to $4 million for the renovation of the gym, band room and technical education room.
“We are happy that the plan was approved by Frankfort and can only hope money will come our way soon,” he said.
The plan also calls for a major renovation at South Green Elementary during the 2006-08 biennium and includes improved storm drainage, site lighting, an entrance canopy, roof replacement and HVAC upgrades with an estimated cost of $1,095,928. It also calls for the construction of four standard classrooms consisting of 800 square feet each with an estimated cost of $553,514.
Also listed in the plan, but not scheduled until after the 2008 biennium are the following: Glasgow Middle School — new roof, secure entrance, interior finishes and accessories and HVAC controls replacement with an estimated cost of $609,188, plus the construction of 500-seat exterior bleachers, a concession and restroom building and the installation of football stadium lighting at an estimated cost of $282,500; Happy Valley Alternative School — a major renovation to include asbestos flooring abatement, security entrance, interior finishes and ADA requirements at an estimated cost of $173,706; district wide — installation of fixed active boards and projectors in all classrooms with wireless capability for hand-held student assessments and remote operation with an estimated cost of $6,500 per classroom.
A project that appears in the plan as a capital construction priority is a major renovation of the school board’s central office to include site development, parking lot lighting, site railings, HVAC replacement and ADA accessibility with an estimated cost of $155,655.
Items included in the plan that are listed as discretionary construction projects are: Glasgow High School — construction of high school athletic fields consisting of 93,681 square feet; and a Central bus garage — bus parking area.
