New company to move into Belden building By GINA KINSLOW Glasgow Daily Times TOMPKINSVILLE — A manufacturing facility that has been vacant a couple of years will have soon have a new tenant.
Billy Joe Anderson, owner of Anderson Forest Products, confirmed he has purchased the former Belden building on Capp Harlan Road. “We’re expanding our product line and moving it into the building,” said Anderson. “There is also a company that is going to share the building.” However, Anderson would not disclose the name of the company that will be sharing the building with his company on Friday, but said he would be able to make an announcement regarding the company next week. Anderson plans to employ between 140 to 150 people, and said the jobs will pay prevailing wage. He plans to manufacture cardboard and paper products, and said he anticipates production to begin within four months. Monroe County Judge-Executive Wilbur Graves was pleased to learn that a new company will be moving into the community. “It sounds great. We’re glad to have something opening in here to lift the spirits of people in Monroe County,” he said. “Everyone has been kind of discouraged for quite some time. We’re just glad to have something new coming into the area.” Tompkinsville Mayor Steve Carter was pleased to learn that Anderson will be bringing new jobs to the area. “I hope that’s true,” he said. “We sure can use it. Any community can use new jobs.” Belden, which was a large employer for Monroe County, closed its Tompkinsville manufacturing facility in 2007.
