Cave City to have tight budget

— Money will be tight for Cave City come July 1, but city officials say the 2009-10 fiscal year won’t be much leaner than the previous fiscal year.
The city’s 2009-10 budget includes $1,203,822 in total estimated revenues and $1,226,795 in total appropriations leaving the city with an estimated fund balance of $4,508.
“We’re no different than anyone else,” said Mayor Bob Hunt. “We’re going to have a hard time. We’ve made some concessions. I don’t know if we made enough or not, but we made some concessions.”
The budget cuts affected all city departments.
“We plan to keep giving the services the people are used to,” Hunt said. “They might not be quite as frequent as they have been. We will continue as of now.”
One of the things the city has cut back on is the pickup of large trash items that need to go to the landfill. Rather than picking those items up once a week, the city will be picking them up only twice a month during the 2009-10 fiscal year.
There is an estimated fund balance carried foward for the 2009-10 fiscal year of $27,481 for the general fund and $13,302 for the municipal road aid and local government and economic assistance fund. Total appropriations for the municipal road aid and local government and Economic Assistance Fund are estimated to be $20,740, while total appropriations for the convention center fund are estimated to be $306,000.
Estimated revenues for the city’s general fund for the 2009-10 fiscal year are as follows: property taxes, $137,904; license and permits, $327,225; intergovernmental revenues, $177, 130; franchise charges, $50,000; net profit tax, $66,404; interest, $832; bank deposits tax, $8,725; municipal insurance tax, $231,040; charges for services, $162,554; all other expenditures, $42,008.
