Barren County Superintendent given contract extension By AMBER DILLEY Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — Superintendent Jerry Ralston will remain with the Barren County School District until at least June 2011, the board voted Thursday evening.
The board approved to give Ralston a one year extension on his contract, which will expire June 2011. “When they gave me a good evaluation, that makes any superintendent feel good,” Ralston said. “We have a number of great students, a great staff, programs that meet the needs of our students and a board of education that has a shared vision that allows us to do our jobs. And if we aren’t doing our jobs, we tell each other.” Having one change in the board of education in the last 15 years says good things about the board, he said. “I think it’s my job as superintendent to thank you for the job you do in the district,” Ralston told the board members. “I think it says a lot that we work so well together.” Robbie Toms, board chairman, agreed, saying that the board does work well and that speaks to Ralston’s abilities, as well as the board members’. “We do have problems to deal with, financial issues, but we deal with them, address them, make decisions and move forward,” Ralston said. “That really makes me feel good about this board and this district.” Ralston was working under a two year contract extension of his original four year contract signed in 2003 when he was hired. At the last meeting, the board evaluated Ralston and gave him good ratings in all eight sections they scored him on including business, knowledge of the district and communications with the board and the community.
