Storm causes limited damage

— A storm that passed through the area in the early morning hours Thursday downed several trees in the Hiseville and Austin and Tracy communities.
“Hiseville was the hardest hit,” said Tony Richey, director of emergency management for Barren County.
However, there was no structure damage in either community, he said.
The storm also knocked out electrical power to several homes serviced by Farmers’ Rural Electric Cooperative in the northern and eastern portions of Barren County and to homes in the Austin and Tracy communities serviced by Tri-County Electric Cooperative in the southern portion of the county.
“We’re not sure how many homes have been affected,” said Debbi Moore with Tri-County Electric.
As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday FRECC reported 500 customers without power.
“Crews are working diligently to restore power as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience. If your power has not been restored by late Wednesday afternoon, please call us at (800) 253-2191 or 651-2191,” said Jerry Carter, vice president of member and corporate services. “Early this morning, due to a severe storm in the Farmers RECC service area, Farmers Rural Electric lost power to approximately 2,000 consumers. The affected areas included the Knob Lick, Center, Sulphur Well areas of Metcalfe County, the Goodnight, Jackson Highway area and the Morrison Park area of Barren County.”
The Kentucky Mesonet station in western Barren County reported a rainfall of 0.45 inches from the storm. The mesonet station also recorded wind gusts of 20 miles per hour at the height of the storm.
