Before going off to serve the community, area EMS workers started the day off right with a hearty breakfast this morning.
Today marked the 11th year workers at T.J. Samson Community Hospital honored emergency personnel with their annual appreciation breakfast, which falls during EMS Week.
The week of recognition started May 20 and runs through May 26.
“This is our major emphasis,” organizer Bonnie Bennett, a registered nurse at T.J. Samson, said. “Emergency room does this for the EMS every year.”
Members of the Barren-Metcalfe EMS, Glasgow Fire Department and hospital staff were on hand early Thursday to enjoy a hearty helping of eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, fruit and various beverages.
The food was prepared by members of T.J. Samson’s dietary group.
Besides those who were present, Bennett said invitations were also extended to members of local police, volunteer fire departments and STATCARE crews.
As is the case each year, the focus of the event is showing gratitude to the men and women who help members of the community in times of trouble.
“They provide an invaluable service to our community,” said Bill Kindred, T.J. Samson CEO. “This is just a very, very small token of our appreciation.”
