AC unit cited in fire

GLASGOW —
South Lewis Street residents were out of their homes and on the sidewalks Tuesday night just before 9:30, trying to locate the source of the smoke they were smelling.
Firefighters and other emergency officials found the blaze at 304 East Washington St., about a block away.
There they discovered that a window air conditioning unit had caught on fire and done some structural damage. The Glasgow Fire Department said no one was injured in the incident.
Hiseville resident Pam Johnson was one of several who came out to see what the commotion was about. She had been at a home on South Lewis Street caring for two elderly residents.
It was when she stepped outside to smoke that Johnson first saw all the emergency officials.
“I didn’t know what was going on,” she said. “I was hoping it wasn’t one of those kids out here (had been) hurt.”
The Glasgow Fire Department was assisted by the the Glasgow Police Department and the Barren-Metcalfe County Ambulance Service.
In a separate incident, members of the Park City Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle and house fire at 6623 Mammoth Cave Road just before 3 on Monday afternoon.
Fire chief Sammy Fawn said the blaze fully engulfed a van. The temperatures were so hot that the siding on the front of the house began melting.
The blaze was contained in about 15 minutes, according to Fawn. No injuries were reported.
