Board approves change orders at North Jackson By AMBER DILLEY Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — The Barren County Board of Education voted to approve several change orders for North Jackson Elementary Thursday night.
A change order had to be approved to rework the preschool playground area to accommodate proposed playground equipment at a cost of $1,588; to add quadruplex outlets in the kitchen/office area at a cost of $365 and add a new door from the corridor to the waiting area at a cost of $1,295. They also approved another change due to the erector of the steel trusses damaging a window frame. The repairs will be deducted from the contract of Service Drywall Co. Inc. to repair the damage to the frame at a cost of $245. There will be no charge to the board for this. Board Chairman Robbie Toms said that the school’s contingency is still in good shape despite the amount of change orders. “There are some change orders, but they are not for a large amount of money,” Toms said. Jim Ivy, with RBS Design and contractor for the new school, said construction on the school is moving on schedule and that workers are moving ahead, working in the windy weather to get the school open on time. “The roof planes are ready to go on,” Ivy said. ‘We’re just waiting for better weather. The windy weather we’ve been having isn’t too good for putting on roof planes.” The board also approved a bid for asphalt paving for North Jackson. “This was something we wanted to wait on until prices went down,” said superintendent Jerry Ralston. “Now prices are low enough for us to continue with paving at the school.” The school is ahead of predictions for enrollment, according to Bo Matthews, director of pupil personnel. “We currently have 207 students, K-6 enrolled right now,” Matthews said. “That’s more than what we expected at this point in time and we’re really excited about it.” The board is also currently working on planning school bus routes for the district, according to Bud Tarry, transportation director.
