Glasgow Police arrested a Barren County woman Tuesday after authorities responded to a complaint at the Urgent Care Clinic.
Lonya L. Whited, 33, of 614 E. Main St., Glasgow, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, possession of a controlled substance, first offense, drug unspecified, prescription controlled substance not in proper container and failure to wear a seat belt.
Police stopped Whited’s vehicle near the Glasgow city limits in a Speedway parking lot. Authorities said Whited appeared disoriented and under the influence. A search of the vehicle prior to her arrest led to the discovery of a prescription bottle with the label removed containing a number of pills identified by the Poison Control Center as Oxycodone, according to investigators.
Whited was lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center.
In other police action, police arrested a Glasgow woman Thursday afternoon after she allegedly attempted to pass a fake prescription for Lorcet tablets.
Deborah Leigh Courtney, 46, of 504 North Race St., was charged with attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud. Police responded to a complaint at Vann Health Care in reference to a suspected forged presciption.
Authorities contacted the physician who denied writing the prescription for Lorcet, according to police reports. Courtney admitted to writing the prescription herself, police said. She was taken into custody and lodged in the Barren County Jail.
A Glasgow man was arrested later the same day and charged with unlawful transaction with a minor, second-degree, after police responded to a complaint about possible drug activity at his residence.
Tony R. Keen, 27, of 800 Cleveland Ave., Apt. F6, was charged in connection with several rolled marijuana cigarettes officers discovered in the bathroom of the home, authorities said. Keen admitted to rolling the marijuana cigarettes for a 17-year-old boy, police said.
He was lodged in the Barren County Jail.
Kentucky State Police arrested a Russellville man Tuesday and charged him with sexually abusing a child less than 12 years.
Merlin Overholt, 43, was charged with five counts of sodomy first-degree and five counts of sexual abuse of a minor child. Overholt was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation, police said. He was taken into custody and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Police are not releasing any further information about the investigation or victim at this time.
Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting death of a Metcalfe County man. Police found the victim, 46-year-old John Auburn Smith, after responding to a residence just after 7 p.m. at 33 Pleasant Cemetery Road in Edmonton in reference to a shooting.
Smith was taken by ambulance to the Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia where he was pronounced dead by the Adair County Coroner Rick Wilson, authorities said. A second person, who police have not identified, was transported to the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg for treatment.
No arrests had been made in the case by press time. No other details were available. The investigation is continuing.
