YOUR VIEW: McConnell wrong on minimum wage

GLASGOW — Dear Editor,

Contrary to Senator Mitch McConnell’s claims, increasing the minimum wage would not kill jobs. Increases in the federal minimum wage occurred during robust economic growth in the 1990s, and study after study concludes that there is no correlation between the minimum wage and unemployment.

National business leaders have directly contradicted McConnell on this issue, and said that a higher wage leads to less turnover and more productive employees. Plain commonsense would tell you that increasing the wage would boost spending and help our local economies.

It’s time for Kentucky to elect a senator that cares more about jobs here at home and less about protecting his own.
