JCJC announces 2nd annual High School Math Quiz Bowl

ELLISVILLE — Jones County Junior College’s math department will be hosting the second annual Math Quiz Bowl on Wednesday, November 18th at the JCJC Advanced Technology Center in the Howard Technology Park. This contest is a venue to spotlight the academic talent of the area’s best and brightest high school math students.
Competing teams from each high school will consist of four students. The quiz bowl will be set up in double-elimination format with questions ranging in difficulty from algebra to calculus. The preliminary rounds will be held concurrently and the semi-finals will be held in the ATC auditorium.
Participating senior students on the first and second place teams will receive scholarship awards that are to be applied to future expenses at JCJC and will be given in addition to any scholarships they may have already received or will receive at Jones. Additional awards from contributing sponsors will also be given to members of the first and second place teams, as well as their faculty sponsors.
JCJC Math Quiz Bowl sponsors include Magnolia Bank of Jasper and Smith Counties, Community Bank of Jones and Covington Counties, Richton Bank & Trust of Perry and Greene Counties, First State Bank of Wayne and Clarke Counties, and Foil Wyatt Architects.
High School that participated in last year’s math bowl include: Enterprise High School, Taylorsville High School, Raleigh High School, Mount Olive High School, Bay Springs High School, Wayne County High School, Northeast Jones High School, Quitman High School, Wayne Academy, Collins High School, Laurel High School, Richton High School, Stringer Attendance Center, Laurel Christian High School, and Perry Central High School.
