A Colorado man wanted for a murder in Arvada, Colo. was taken into custody by Glasgow police early Wednesday from a room at the Comfort Inn, 210 Cavalry Drive.

Jonathan Ryan Heacock, 33, was apprehended without incident after the Arvada Police Department notified the Glasgow Police Department to be on the lookout for a murder suspect possibly in the area.

“Patrol officers saw a vehicle with Colorado license plates in the parking lot at the Comfort Inn, and they believed that to be his vehicle, so they made contact with the hotel management for their assistance,” said Lt. Col. Kent Keen, Glasgow Police Department spokesman.

The GPD Certified Emergency Response Team arrived at the hotel and evacuated around eight rooms near the room in which Heacock was staying, room 108. After making contact with Heacock, he came out of the room and “surrendered without incident or injury,” Keen said.

The door to the room was covered in police tape Wednesday morning as police detectives continue their investigation.

Arvada, a town of around 100,000 people, is approximately seven miles northwest of Denver.

Susan Medina, Arvada Police Department spokeswoman, confirmed that Heacock is a person of interest in a “very active” homicide investigation the Arvada Police Department has been conducting “for about the past day,” and that no more information was available at press time.

Darrell Johnson, of Danville, was staying in the hotel room next to Heacock and was one of the guests evacuated by police.

“Around 4:30 I got a call to my room and it was a police officer who told me to get dressed quietly and exit the room, then they would tell me where to go,” he said. “I came outside and saw a lot of officers holding rifles and they put the rifles down when they saw me. They motioned me around the corner and told me I could either wait there or go next door to the Days Inn to eat breakfast. So I went and got breakfast,” he said.

Johnson said he thought the situation was handled smoothly.

“They let me come back around 5:30, and I thought the police department handled it very professionally. I had no idea there were so many police officers,” he said.

Comfort Inn employees on duty Wednesday morning had no comment, but Rodney Kinslow, regional director for Comfort Inn, said the hotel employees “used every proper procedure at check-in” and that the company is “working with authorities in any way (it) can.”

“At this time we’re still investigating,” Kinslow said.

Keen said Heacock was lodged in the Barren County Correction Center on charges of being a fugitive from another state and receiving stolen property over $300. According to the police report, Heacock was driving a stolen 1998 Dodge Caravan with Colorado registration.

The report states that upon checking in at the hotel, Heacock told a front desk employee that he did not know the plate number of his vehicle and could only give a description.
