Woman killed in motorcycle crash By LISA SIMPSON STRANGE Glasgow Daily Times A Barren County woman was killed and two others were injured as the result of a collision involving two vehicles and a motorcycle Saturday near the entrance of Barren River Lake State Resort Park.
Rebecca Sue Barbour, 69, of Glasgow, was a passenger on a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle being operated by her husband, John R. Barbour, 61, of Glasgow, when it went out of control while he was trying to avoid a previous crash about 5 p.m. Saturday. Barbour was critically injured and transported by Air Methods to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where she later died. The incident began when Mary F. Jones, 74, of Fountain Run, drove her 1983 Pontiac Bonnieville through the intersection from State Park Road to Austin Tracy Road and into the path of Brenda M. Chappell, 38, of Scottsville, who was traveling south on U.S. 31E in a 2004 Chevy van, according to a Barren County Sheriff’s report. Chappell’s vehicle overturned and traveled into the northbound lane. While attempting to avoid the aftermath of the collision, John Barbour left the roadway and spun out of control when the motorcycle hit loose gravel. The motorcycle re-entered the road and came to rest on its side. John Barbour was transported by private means to T.J. Samson Community Hospital where he was treated and released. Chappell was transported by Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service to T.J. Samson Community Hospital. She was also treated and released. Jones and a passenger in her vehicle, Wendell K. Jones, 39, of Fountain Run, were not injured in the collision. Seat belts were in use by everyone in the two vehicles. Both driver and passenger on the motorcycle were wearing helmets. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the report. Deputy Bobby McCown is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash. Members of the Austin Tracy Volunteer Fire Department and Kentucky State Park Rangers assisted at the scene. This is the eighth fatality that has occurred during seven collisions so far this year that the sheriff’s office has investigated, according to Trevor Phillips, BCSO public relations director.
