Wagon fire damages home By LISA SIMPSON STRANGE Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — A woman and her young son escaped injury Monday afternoon when a wagon caught fire next to a Glasgow residence.
Leeann Logan was cleaning an apartment on the top floor of a house at 415 West Washington when her son Alex told her that he smelled something burning. “He said, ‘I smell smoke’ and I said, ‘I do too,’” Logan said. “We came out the door and there it was.” She and her son had to exit the upstairs apartment onto a porch and down a stairway next to where the fire was burning. The wagon had been used to throw garbage into, Logan said. Units of the Glasgow Fire Department were called to the scene shortly after 2 p.m. for a reported car fire. When they arrived, firefighters discovered the wagon next to the apartment building was on fire. They were able to bring the blaze under control in about five minutes, according to Glasgow Fire Chief Bobby Bunnell. The contents of the wagon were household items and were destroyed by the fire, with the damage to the structure confined to the outside vinyl siding, according to the report. The owner of the building, Chris Irwin, of Glasgow, told fire department officials that two of the apartments were occupied at the time of the fire and they were also able to escape without injury. Damage to the wagon, its contents and the structure were estimated at $3,000. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and were assisted by Glasgow Police and Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by local police and fire departments, according to Bunnell.
