Staying true to form

I am an inveterate filler-out of forms. Form filler-outer. Outfiller of forms.
I fill out a lot of forms, is what I’m trying to say. Magazine forms, coupons, order forms, you name it. Give me a pen and I’ll get right to work.

  • Barack Obama’s mandate gap
On Nov. 3, the fairy tale died. The election results in Virginia and New Jersey dismantled the self-satisfied, just-so story that Democrats have been telling themselves about last year’s election.

  • Why Obama won’t go to Berlin
In his first year in office, Barack Obama has visited more foreign countries than any other president. He’s touched ground in 16 countries, easily outpacing Bill Clinton (three) and George W. Bush (11). It’s an itinerary befitting a “citizen of the world.”

  • On Afghanistan, never mind?

  • A growing sense of unease
In the friendly confines of the Oval Office, congratulations are about to be exchanged. On those dithering heights, victory is about to be proclaimed. A great change is about to take place in Americans’ health care and how to pay for it, and the administration sounds triumphant.

  • The whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth
I’ve heard it said that “the dentist will see you now” are the scariest words in the human language. I can take that one step further.

  • Obama hasn’t yet closed the deal on health care reform
President Obama recently took his case for health care reform before Congress and the American people. He didn’t make the sale.

  • Spring has sprung, and so have my vertebrae

  • The liberated economy
American capitalism is a house divided.
On one side are those corporations and financial firms dependent on government support, and thus eager to obey the diktat of their political minders. They are part of Obama, Inc., a vast public-private entity pursuing a vision of a greener, more constrained, and politicized capitalism.

  • Welcome, guests; Goodbye, sanity
I recently played host to a large group of people (that’s “large” as in “herd”) who came to town to partake of my legendary open door policy. In other words, they needed a place to crash and I had room.
The visit served to remind me that I have no future in the hospitality industry.
