LOCAL FLAVORS: Area eateries offer treats
Larger crowd turns out for this year’s "A Taste of Barren County"

GLASGOW —
Many mouths were fed and many bellies filled at Tuesday’s A Taste of Barren County.
In its second year, the joint venture between the Glasgow and Cave City chambers of commerce attracted more hungry patrons than last year’s event.
Gina Lyon, with the Cave City Chamber, said advanced ticket sales were over 350, which topped 2006’s attendance of 300.
Many more descended upon the Cave City Convention Center to try delicacies provided by 12 vendors.
Organizers began setting up tables and chairs in the center’s hallway to accommodate the crowds.
Diners got to sample everything from a chicken pasta dish sauteed in a white wine garlic cream sauce at the Barren River Lake State Resort Park’s booth to baby back ribs at Rawhide Steakhouse’s station.
Plenty of desserts and drinks were available as well.
Also seen roaming the convention center were some Disney royalty, such as Snow White, Cinderella and “Beauty and the Beast’s” Belle.
The fairy tale characters were advertising for “princess parties,” which are in conjunction with Glasgow’s Casual to Candlelight Caterers.
Attendees sampled several varieties of local cuisine and socialized with friends both old and new throughout the evening.
“What a great time,” said Ernie Myers, executive director of the Glasgow Chamber.
Bill Underwood, a Barren County resident making his first trip to the event, was equally impressed, calling the it “nice.”
“The potato soup was good,” Underwood said. “Everything was good.”
