Music from the ’60s to rock the Plaza Theatre

GLASGOW — The sounds of the 1960s will be featured Saturday night during “Jenny Lu’s Revue: The 1960s Summer of Love” at the Plaza Theatre.

“We try to come up with a different theme every time,” said Chad Shireman, music director for the show.

The ’60s theme was suggested by theater director Jennifer Moonsong.

“I thought with it being summertime that the ‘Summer of Love’ theme would be good, but also the ’60s were such a diverse time for music,” Moonsong said. “I think the ’60s in modern history was the most powerful time for music. A lot of new music came to be during that decade.

“I thought it would be a really good way to tie in some really good music with the season.”

Performers will include Lacey Brown, who finished 12th in the ninth season of the television program “American Idol” and now lives in Bowling Green.

“We just thought that would be an interesting story – somebody who has made it that far on the big stage. She’s been on the ‘Ellen’ show and on David Letterman’s show,” Shireman said. “She has some great stories to tell and she’s a great singer.”

Also performing will be Glasgow entertainer Josh Johnson, who will play guitar and sing.

“Chad Shireman … asked me if I would be interested in being part of the show,” Johnson said. “I thought it sounded like fun, so I said, ‘Sign me up.’ ”

Johnson will perform a variety of songs from genres such as country, folk and rock.

“Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan and the Guess Who are some of the artists that I’m covering,” Johnson said.

Trevor Edwards, who graduated from Glasgow High School in May, will perform a dance along with some friends who are members of the Glasgow High School marching band.

“We are doing some of the ’60s vibe dances and some of the ’70s dances to kind of break up the monotony of singing,” Edwards said.

This will be the first time that Edwards, who is pursuing a degree in dance from Western Kentucky University, has performed in this type of show.

Joining him on stage will be Keely Largent, Kayla Hall, Maddie Moloko, Hayley Stahl and Chloe Shireman.
