Kentucky Rep’s 2009 season opens with ‘Sylvia’

HORSE CAVE — Kentucky Repertory Theatre kicks of its 2009 Season May 29 with “Sylvia” by A.R. Gurney. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a reception preceding the performance at 6:45 p.m.

Artistic Director Robert Brock is enthusiastic about this first offering of KRT’s summer season.

“Sylvia is a romantic comedy that will appeal to dog lovers,” said Brock. “We think that’s a combination that will make great summer entertainment.”

A.R. Gurney's “Sylvia” is a modern romantic comedy about a marriage and a dog….that talks. Greg and Kate are living on their own again since their children are in college. They have recently sold their house in the suburbs and moved to New York City. Kate’s career is taking off and Greg is unhappy at his job so, when Sylvia enters the picture with her big brown soulful eyes, it makes for a hilarious love triangle.

“Give a dog a woman's name and you'll begin to think of it as a woman," writes Gurney, and Greg does.

Sylvia runs May 29 through June 14. For ticket information and reservations contact the KRT box office at (800) 342-2177.
