Glasgow Summer Theater officials struggled to come up with a play to present this summer, but eventually settled on the musical, “Oklahoma.”
One factor that helped them make up their minds was that they would soon be losing one of their veteran actors.
J. Robert Lindsey, a former Highland Elementary School teacher who has appeared in several GST productions, is leaving Glasgow to pursue a professional acting career.
Lindsey, who plays Curley, the male lead in the play, portrayed the same character as a student at Glasgow High School.
“He has matured so much that he wanted a chance to do it again,” said Bill Green, director. “And so, we decided to give him that chance. We figured over the years he has earned that chance, and it has turned out to be a pretty good choice, I think.”
But Lindsey said his decision to leave community theater and pursue a professional career was not the only reason for GST to do “Oklahoma.”
