Filmmakers to ‘get reel’

GLASGOW — The work of nine young filmmakers chosen as “favorites” will be judged Saturday at 6:30 p.m. during the Reel Generation Film Festival at the Plaza Theatre.

This marks the third year for the Plaza to host the film festival, which attracts young filmmakers from across the state.

“We’re thrilled to have them back for the third time and we’re looking forward to seeing what the children have done,” said Jennifer Moonsong, public relations representative for the theater.

Last year’s entries set a high standard for filmmakers competing this year, said Phillip Napier, a member of the film festival committee and a multi-media teacher at Barren County High School.

“All of the films that were previewed have just gone way above that standard,” he said.

Only one local filmmaker submitted an entry.

Jay Todd Richey, a Barren County High School senior, submitted a film titled “Mafianji.”

“My film is really complex. I made it over last summer at the governor’s scholar’s program,” he said.
