Lattrell helps Lawrence continue hot start

Baseball

Zak Adamopoulos had two hits and a pair of RBIs and Zach Lattrell (5 strikeouts) earned the win as Lawrence Legion defeated Revere, 4-1. Dennis Torres struck out seven and did not allow a hit in 31/3 innings of relief and Greg Donahue and Chris Sartori each had an RBI in the win. Lawrence improved to 3-0.

John Farrell struck out eight in a six-inning complete game as Andover Legion topped Danvers, 7-0. Farrell, who will be a senior this coming fall, allowed just three hits. Tim Hoffman pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to give Andover its first win of the summer (1-0-1). John Hennessy added three hits, including a double, and Marc Crowley hit a three-run homer in the sixth. Center fielder Mike Yastrzemski chipped in with fine defensive game for the winners, including doubling up a runner off first.

Haverhill Post 4 lost 8-1 to Team Cape Cod and 6-2 to Warwick Hoxsie yesterday at the second annual Haverhill Legion Tournament. Patrick Noone doubled and scored the sole run in the loss to Cape Cod. Derek Dubois was 3 for 3 including a two-run double to score Jim Murphy and Josh Chasse to lead the Post 4 offense in the nightcap.

Haverhill hosts Newburyport in the tournament finale at tonight at 7 p.m. Newburyport defeated Concord, N.H. 12-5 but lost to Cape Cod 3-2 yesterday.

Tennis

Tiberii advanced to Haverhill semifinals

Matt Tiberii earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in yesterday's quarterfinal action in the Haverhill City Tennis Tournament, advancing to today's semifinals (11 a.m.). Tiberii will meet Chad Belinsky, who won by forfeit. Ray Reed will meet Kevin Paul in the other semifinal round. The finals will follow at 2 p.m. today.
