Hearts and darts

Commercial-News

Here are a few of the good things readers noticed around the area recently:

Greg Williams of Danville sends hearts “to David and Jennifer Cole-Woodrow for a very professional, highly entertaining production of the musical ‘Guys and Dolls’ by the North Ridge Middle School Drama Club.

“The talented cast, hard-working crew, small combo and supportive parents are all to be commended for a spirited rendition of the Frank Loesser classic that surpassed, in quality, many high school productions. The staging was fast-paced. The energetic acting and singing belied the relatively young ages of the performers. The rented backdrops gave the Danville High School stage a true Broadway feeling.

“To those who bypassed the show, you missed many of the same talented young people who participate in the award-winning North Ridge Redcoats and Radiant Reds. Many in the audience could not fathom that these performers, many already seasoned theater veterans, were only in middle school.

“Here’s hoping that more people in Danville will take advantage of a new generation of gifted and talented entertainers when the curtain goes up again.

Amy Wright, chairperson for the Covington, Ind., Apple Fest, sends hearts “to the following individuals and businesses for their help and support.

“Hearts to co-chairperson Valerie White, Dale White, Denise Crowder, Ed Grubb, Dale Clawson, Earl Peyton, Mike Latoz, John Shambach, Tim Pratt, Bob Shelby, Helen Shelby, Jerry Crain, Alan Woodrow and Margaret Woodrow. Also, hearts to Covington Foods, Old National Bank, Amy Hay, Wabash Valley Flower Shop, Wabash Valley Crop Insurance, Commercial-News and KISS/KOOL Radio.

“This year’s event was a huge success, and I am so very grateful to all of you. Thank you to the city of Covington for all of the help and support, the Covington Police Department for helping to make our visitors feel safe and the Fountain County Commissioners for allowing us to once again use the Fountain County Courthouse for restroom facilities.

“Thank you to the Covington Fire Department for once again hosting its annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast. You do an outstanding job! A very special thank you to our Master of Ceremonies, Mike Stultz. He did a wonderful job and I am so very grateful.

“Thank you to all of the businesses and individuals who continue to support this event each year. Without all of you, there would be no Apple Fest. Covington is a wonderful community and we are so happy to be able to host this annual event. Next year will be our 20th Apple Fest. Be sure to come celebrate with us!”

Tracey Smith of Fithian sends hearts “To Juice and the Oakwood Comet volleyball team for taking the time to tack up Oakwood-Armstrong-Potomac football players’ numbers and names along U.S. Route 150 in Fithian.

“The support shown the OAP football team from the volleyball team is much appreciated.”

Linda Dunavan of Rossville sends hearts to some helping hands.

“Two weeks ago, my mother and I were leaving Danville in the pouring rain when she had a flat tire. She pulled over to the side of the street to check the damage when a good Samaritan in a pickup truck stopped to see if he could help.

“He changed her tire in the dark and pouring rain, then followed us to a gas station so we could put air in the spare tire. He wouldn’t take money for his good deed, but we are thankful to Matt Rademacker for being such a caring person. Thank you.”

The board of directors for the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Vermilion County send hearts “to all those businesses who sponsored and to individuals who donated and/or helped with our successful Oct. 24 Family Hog Roast at Kennekuk County Park.

“The businesses were Applewood Foods, Dively Enterprises, Danville Paper and Supply, Earl Gaudio and Son Inc., County Market North, Price Less Foods, Leitz and Hussman-Rogers Law Office, and Danville McDonald’s.

“Two groups donated their time and talents, the Kickapoo Volunteer Fire Department and Creative Covers Quilting Club. Doc Ashton and the Root Canals entertained the crowd.

“Individual sponsors were: Tom and Nancy Fahey; Judge Claudia Anderson; Phyllis Daughtery; Alayne and Mark Anderson; Tricia Keith; Vicky Brown; Eric Neuman; Frank Young; Julia Thronton-Busby; and Don and Donna Vish.

“Darold Marrow and his wife deserve hearts for their long hours preparing the meat in cold weather. Our ‘Kids’ Zone’ area was a big hit and required many helpers: Jodie Reavill, Maria Semersheim, Carla Schafer, Jerri Lynn Seitz, Greg Leitz, James Rogers, Jordan Lamb, Sue Glynn, Ross Anderson, Alicia Pettigrew, Megan Kegeris, Liya Hussman-Rogers, Roxy Reed and several Peer Court volunteers.

“It takes a lot of folks to put on an event such as this. Thanks so much to those who helped and to those who attended.”
