New CPAs receive recognition

— The Kentucky Certified Public Accountants Society has recognized several new CPAs in the state, including three locally.
The newly certified CPAs have met all requirements for certification and have taken the Oath of the Certified Public Accountant.
Melinda Faith Hamilton, of Taylor and Polson Company in Glasgow, was one of many who attended the ceremony in Louisville April 24.
“When I was little, I just decided that this is what I wanted to do,” Hamilton said.
Certified CPAs have to aquire additional hours along with their bachelor’s degre ae, as well as complete an exam before being awarded with their certification, Hamilton said.
“And, it gives our companies more accreditation, being able to say they have that other certified public accountant working for your company.,” she said.
Ticiane Lucas and Anthony Wilson of Fowler Durham and Company in Munfordville were also recognized as newly certified CPAs.
Also recognized in the program were those seeking eligibility for certification whose performance on the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination was exemplary, successful candidates who will qualify for certification upon completion of the 2,000 hour experience requirement and those who scored the highest on one more more sections of the Uniform CPA Exam during the quarterly testing window.
The exam is administered by the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of the State Boards of Accountancy and Thomson Prometric.
Licenses are approved by the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy.
Cheryl Lalond, state assistant attorney general, administered the Oath of the Certified Public Accountant to eligible attendees.
The Kentucky Society of CPAs is a statewide, non-profit, professional organization serving CPAs in public accounting firms, business, industry, government and education.
