Glasgow’s Walbert Trucking is among 12 Kentucky small businesses making up the inaugural class of the Pacesetter Business Recognition Program.
“I’m especially (proud) to be included, but especially to be included in the first 12,” said Tom Walbert, president of the firm.
The program is a collaboration of the Kentucky Small Business Development Center, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development and the Louisville branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, according to Business First of Louisville.
Program members looked at business growth, entrepreneurial leadership, community support and contributions to the economy and job market, according to Walbert.
Walbert Trucking has been serving the local community since 1931. Presently, there are 160 employees, which includes independent contractors.
The other businesses recognized are: Lawrence and Associates, Louisville; Big Meadow Oil Co. Inc., Knob Lick; Custom Tool &Manufacturing Co., Lawrenceburg; Hitcents Inc., Bowling Green; Interstate Natural Gas Co., Pikeville; LCM Co., Lexington; Oscarware Inc., Bonnieville; Pendleton Data Farm, Falmouth; SouthEast Telephone, Pikeville; The Gallaher Group, Ashland; and Twin Rivers Inc., Livermore.
They were all recognized at the Kentucky Celebrates Small Business event in Louisville on April 23.
Walbert said the inaugural class will be featured in a commemorative magazine. During the event, he was especially impressed with a gubernatorial proclamation championing the contributions of small businesses.
“We see so much emphasis on industry, industry, industry, but for every industry, there’s numerous small businesses that support that industry,” Walbert said.
