1:15 AFTERNOON UPDATE: BCSO trial in hands of jury

BOWLING GREEN — Brian Butler and Buddy Alexander finished their closing arguments on behalf of Eric Guffey and Aaron Bennett this morning in U.S. District Court in Bowling Green. U.S. Department of Justice civil rights prosecutor Sanjay Patel followed their arguments with a government rebuttal to try one more time to convince the jury that the government has proven Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton, deputy Bennett and Barren-Edmonson Drug Task Force detective Guffey assaulted or allowed an assault on Billy Randall Stinnett after he was in handcuffs on Feb. 24, 2010.

The jury received its final instructions shortly before 12:30 p.m., and they were to be served lunch while they began deliberation.
