TOMPKINSVILLE — A Barren County man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting incident that occurred Sunday in the Fountain Run area of Monroe County.
Ricky Wyatt, 58, of Austin, has been charged with first-degree assault for allegedly shooting Christopher Burgess, 34, and Rita Downing, 49, both of Scottsville, according to a Kentucky State Police press release.
Burgess sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen while Downing sustained a gunshot would to the right arm. Burgess and Downing were flown to Vanderbilt University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, the press release stated.
The state police in Columbia received a phone call at 3:30 p.m. Sunday from Monroe County dispatch. An investigation revealed the shooting incident occurred outside a residence and that Wyatt and Burgess had been involved in a physical altercation before the shooting occurred, the press release stated.
Wyatt has been lodged in the Monroe County Jail. No further details are available at this time. Detective James Richard is investigating the incident.
