GLASGOW — COMMUNITY EVENTS

Due to inclement weather the Barren County Family YMCA will be closing at 7 p.m. Friday.

Stacy Humphreys with the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace says: "The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park is closing today, Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. due to the impending inclement weather."

Sharon Tabor with the Cave City Convention Center says: "The KY Proud Holiday Market scheduled for this weekend at the Cave City Convention Center is being cancelled due to the weather. Stay tuned for next year's event!"

The South Central Kentucky Cultural Center Holiday Home Tour originally planned for Sunday afternoon has been cancelled due to possible inclement weather.

 

Mammoth Cave National Park is closed
 
Mammoth Cave National Park is closed because of icy roads and falling trees and limbs.  Road conditions deteriorated through the day as rain fell and temperatures dropped below freezing.
 
Park staff will assess the park roads on Saturday morning to determine if they are safe to travel.

The Metcalfe County Home Tour originally scheduled for Sunday has been postponed due to inclement weather and will take place at the same on Dec. 15. 

 

The art show that was planned as part of Christmas on Main in Tompkinsville has been cancelled due to inclement weather. 

SCHOOLS

Barren County Schools officials have issued a statement that county schools will be closed today. (Dec. 6, 2013)

Also, Hart, Metcalfe, Monroe, Cumberland, Allen and Warren county schools and Caverna and Bowling Green schools are closed.

Western Kentucky University officials have announced closing plans. The university's Owensboro campus closed at 9:30 a.m. Friday and will be closed Saturday.

WKU’s Elizabethtown/Fort Knox campus will close at 1 p.m. EST Friday and will be closed Saturday.

WKU’s Glasgow campus will close at 3 p.m. Friday.

Classes on WKU’s Bowling Green campus are canceled at 3 p.m. Friday; the campus will remain open but faculty and staff may leave at 3 p.m. to ensure safer travel home during daylight hours.

The Children’s Theatre Series production of Wiley and the Hairy Man is canceled for 4 p.m. Friday. The Saturday and Sunday afternoon shows are still scheduled at Gordon Wilson Hall Lab Theatre. SPORTS EVENTS

Due to the inclement whether expected to hit the local area sometime today, several schools have already announced basketball games scheduled for tonight have been cancelled.

So far, the following cancellations have been reported to the Glasgow Daily Times: Barren County's girls and boys doubleheader at South Warren; Glasgow's girls game with Greenwood; Caverna's girls and boys doubleheader at Hart County; and Metcalfe County's girls and boys doubleheader at Monroe County.

The Glasgow versus Greenwood game has been rescheduled for Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. at Glasgow High School.
