GLASGOW — An elderly woman was seriously injured late Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle as she tried to walk across Columbia Avenue in front of her home.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released by officials, attempted to cross the street in the 1000 block of Columbia Avenue and was hit by a PT Cruiser traveling eastbound. The driver had not been identified as of this posting.

The woman was trying to get to a non-injury wreck that had just occurred, according to Glasgow Police officers who were working to clear the scene.

GPD officers Michael Burton and Brandon Fletcher had just moved the vehicles involved in the initial crash into a driveway at 1010 Columbia Ave. when Burton observed the female pedestrian step in front of the Cruiser.

“I saw her fly through the air about 30 feet,” Burton said at the scene.

The woman was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital by Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service. She was then flown to University of Louisville Hospital by Air Evac, according to an emergency room spokesperson.

The Glasgow Fire Department also responded to the scene.

More information will be made available as it is released.
