BOWLING GREEN — U.S. Department of Justice civil rights prosecutor Roy Conn III concluded his closing argument for the government’s case against Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton, deputy Aaron Bennett and drug task force detective Eric Guffey shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The defendants were law enforcement officers who swore to uphold the law “but instead, they violated the law by beating a handcuffed man while he was down on the ground.” Jurors can be assured excessive force was used, Conn said, based on the testimonies of three young girls who testified they saw the beating from their church window. Watching law enforcement officers beat a handcuffed man “did something to scar their minds,” Conn said.
