MEETING: Edmonton City Council
DATE: Monday, May 7, 2007
ACTION: City council members approved the backpay of retirement benefits for Mayor Howard Garrett for 104 months of service credit from 1994 to August 2002; adopted a resolution to support the restoration of commercial airline service to the Elizabethtown airport; agreed to contribute $375 to the Barren River Area Develop-ment District’s Aging Services Program; agreed to allow Jeremy Garmon to volunteer as assistant emergency management director; and agreed to advertise for bids to pave city streets.
PUBLIC HEARING: A public hearing was conducted concerning municipal road aid and LGEA funding. Two comments were heard regarding a request to widen the entrance to James Street. Garrett also mentioned a need to widen the sidewalk in front of the Barn Lot Theatre.
COMMENTS: Garrett commented on how many people volunteered to help with the spring city clean up. Over 245 volunteer hours were logged during the event, including those contributed by students, teachers and staff members of Edmonton Elementary.
It was reported during the meeting that T-ball and Coach pitch softball leagues will being playing Tuesday night. Girls’ fastpitch softball will begin next week.
It was also reported that work on the extension of several waterlines in the county is set to begin in 30 days.
EXECUTIVE SESSION: Council members met in executive session to discuss the acquisition of property. Upon resuming their open session, they agreed to allow the mayor to negotiate a price for it.
