Barren County’s agriculture and business communities are joining forces this summer to present a daylong celebration of agriculture, the Alltech Barren County Ag Festival, and festival organizers hope to get as many locals involved as possible.
With the theme “Farm to Fork,” the event will “celebrate the vital role of agriculture in the best place to live in rural America,” according to a flier. The ag festival will be June 22 at Barren County High School.
The concept for this festival started as early as two to three years ago, according to Ernie Myers, executive vice president of the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce. Barren County has had some great agriculture events, such as June Dairy Days and the Barren County Cattlemen’s Association Cattle Fest, but Myers said there was a group of people who wanted to pool resources and create a bigger, more visible event that would be able to draw a larger crowd and show the community how important agriculture is.
“We decided, why not take these two celebrations and build on them and let’s have one grand and glorious celebration which would celebrate agriculture in the Barrens,” Myers said.
