Joe Trigg’s Glasgow greenhouse hosted 41 small farmers from across the region Wednesday morning as a Kentucky State University-sponsored small farm tour stopped to learn about his aquaculture operation.
Trigg has been raising tilapia in his greenhouse for a little over a year. In May, he received a $5,000 grant from KSU to help him start a tilapia hatchery. The grant’s intention is for Trigg to become successful enough breeding and hatching tilapia that he can sell the fry, or baby tilapia, to other farmers who want to raise them, similar to a cow-calf operation in the beef industry, Trigg explained.
